Superior Fail-Safe Locking Mechanism
The patented locking mechanism used in RAD’s Robotic Tool Changers locks the master plate to the tool plate and remains locked even if pressure is accidentally removed. The master plate can only be decoupled if air pressure is applied to the unlock port – even if z-axis force exceeds the coupling force.
RAD’s Automatic Tool Changers offer repeatability between 0.0004″ and 0.0006″ (0.010 and 0.015mm). Actual results have shown that repeatability is typically better than stated above.
Pneumatic Pass Through
Standard models of RAD’s Automatic Tool Changers include as many as 14 pneumatic ports. Pneumatic lines are passed through the master plate to the tool plate with long-life rubber bushings. The lock and unlock ports on the master plate should be operated from 50 to 100 psi.
Electrical Pass Through
Standard models of RAD’s Automatic Tool Changers include as many as 74 electrical lines. Electrical signals are passed through the master plate to the tool plate with spring probe contacts.
No Touch Locking™ Technology
RAD’s Automatic Tool Changers can lock successfully with a 3-10 mm gap (depending on model) between the master and tool plate.
RAD’s Robotic Tool Changers are designed so that, when coupled, the tool changer does not rock. This feature prevents locking failure or repeatability problems even during high inertia movements.
The patented double-taper locking mechanism used in RAD’s Automatic Tool Changers self-compensates for wear. The pneumatic ports use uniquely designed, long-life rubber bushings that prevent any loss of air pressure.
RAD’s Robotic Tool Changers use nitrile bushings to pass air to the tool plate, and Buna-N O-rings to seal the pneumatic locking mechanism. Buna-N O-rings are designed for extreme temperature environments (-20ºF to 150°F) and are resistant to many hostile fluids. All locking parts are made of Rc58 stainless steel.
No Maintenance Required
RAD’s Automatic Tool Changers normally require no maintenance.
Should a repair be necessary, most components of RAD’s Automatic Tool Changers can be replaced or repaired in the field to minimize downtime.
